Texas Attorney General Paxton is suing the makers of Tylenol, alleging the firms withheld alleged dangers that the pain reliever created to children's neurological development.

This legal action follows a month after Former President Trump advocated an unverified association between consuming Tylenol - alternatively called paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in young ones.

Paxton is filing suit against J&J, which formerly manufactured the medication, the only pain reliever approved for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he stated they "misled consumers by profiting off of suffering and pushing pills without regard for the potential hazards."

The manufacturer states there is lacking scientific proof linking Tylenol to autism.

"These corporations lied for decades, intentionally threatening numerous people to increase profits," Paxton, a Republican, stated.

The manufacturer commented that it was "deeply concerned by the spread of false claims on the safety of acetaminophen and the likely effects that could have on the well-being of American women and children."

On its website, Kenvue also mentioned it had "regularly reviewed the applicable studies and there is insufficient valid information that demonstrates a verified association between using paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups speaking for doctors and medical practitioners concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated acetaminophen - the primary component in acetaminophen - is among limited choices for women during pregnancy to manage discomfort and elevated temperature, which can pose serious health risks if ignored.

"In over twenty years of investigation on the utilization of acetaminophen in gestation, not a single reputable study has conclusively proven that the use of paracetamol in any trimester of gestation leads to neurological conditions in children," the organization stated.

This legal action references recent announcements from the previous government in arguing the drug is allegedly unsafe.

Last month, Trump raised alarms from health experts when he told pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to consume Tylenol when sick.

The US Food and Drug Administration then released a statement that doctors should contemplate reducing the consumption of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism in young ones has not been established.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the FDA, had promised in spring to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would establish the source of autism spectrum disorder in a limited time.

But experts cautioned that finding a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the result of a complicated interplay of genetic and environmental factors - would prove challenging.

Autism is a category of permanent neurological difference and impairment that impacts how persons encounter and engage with the environment, and is diagnosed using doctors' observations.

In his legal document, Paxton - who supports Trump who is running for federal office - alleges Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "deliberately disregarded and attempted to silence the research" around paracetamol and autism.

The lawsuit attempts to require the companies "remove any commercial messaging" that claims acetaminophen is reliable for pregnant women.

This legal action parallels the complaints of a assembly of parents of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who took legal action against the makers of Tylenol in 2022.

Judicial authorities dismissed the legal action, stating investigations from the family's specialists was lacking definitive proof.
