Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
